More is NOT Better (13)

13. It ends with destruction.

Hosea 4:6 says, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: The question must be asked, how can God’s “people” lack knowledge? James 4:12 says, There is one lawgiver. So God’s people will lack knowledge if they have lost their lawgiver or if they have more than one lawgiver causing knowledge to be diluted. The answer for this generation in this culture is the latter.  Adding to the law of God is blinding people to the truth and bringing about great personal destruction.

The next question that then must be asked is, knowing the consequences why would anyone add to God’s word? The answer is again found in James 4:12 which goes on to say, who art thou that judgest another? It is nothing but pure pride that leads people to add to God’s word. To see oneself as a lawgiver and equipped to judge God’s servants by adding to God’s rules and regulations is to have a bloated self image and an un-exalted image of God. Always remember that it is the humble, God fearing Christian that accepts the bible as sufficient and satisfactory.

I turn my final thoughts over to the apostle Paul who asks an interesting question in Colossians 2:20-22, “…if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances…after the commandments and doctrines of men?”
